Crispy Buttermilk Fried Onions

Make someone's day with this plate of juicy onions adorned with a flavourful and crispy batter. The perfect beer snack!

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 10 mins | Serves 2 pax

Ingredients

  • 1 Yellow Onion, Cut into Strips

  • 1/2 Cup Buttermilk (If you don't have buttermilk, mix 1/2 cup of milk and 1 Tbsp of White Vinegar or Lemon Juice and let it sit for 10 mins or until curdled)

  • Cooking Oil

(Flour Mixture)

  • 1/2 Cup All-Purpose Flour

  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder

  • 1/2 Tsp Salt

  • 1/2 Tsp Grounded Black Pepper

  • 1/2 Tsp Cayenne Powder - Optional

Directions

  1. Cut Onion into strips and let it sit in Buttermilk mixture for 10 mins. In the meantime, prepare your flour mixture.

  2. After 15 mins, transfer the strips of onion to the flour mixture and evenly coat each strip with flour.

  3. Add cooking oil to a heated pan and fry the strips of onion till golden brown. (Tip: Use more oil for crispier onions! Ensure that the entire base of the pan is filled with oil)

  4. Let the fried onions sit on a Paper Towel after frying so that the excess oil is soaked up.

  5. Ready to serve!
