Ingredients
4 Slices of Bread
4 Slices of Ham
2 Slices of Cheddar Cheese - OR, swap this out for any other kind of melty cheese like Gruyere or Mozzarella!
2 Tbsp Shredded Red Cheddar or Mozzarella
Pinch of Ground Black Pepper
Pinch of Dill - Optional
(Bechamel Sauce)
30g Unsalted Butter
16g Plain Flour (approx 2 Tbsp)
184g Milk (approx 3/4 cups)
1 Tbsp Wholegrain or Dijon Mustard
Directions
(Bechamel Sauce)
In a heated saucepan, melt butter. Once butter has melted, whisk in flour till well-combined and foamy.
Gradually add milk into the mixture and continue to whisk until the sauce starts to thicken. Remove sauce from heat and whisk in Mustard.
Set aside.
(Assembling the Sandwich)
Preheat the oven to 210°C.
Spread a layer of the Bechamel Sauce on one side of each piece of bread. Add 2 slices of Ham and 1 slice of Cheese on the top of the Bechamel Sauce and cover with another piece of bread (Bechamel side up). *See Image guide Below*
Sprinkle 1 Tbsp of Shredded Cheese, Black Pepper and the Dill on each prepared sandwich and bake in the oven for 12 - 15 mins or until the Cheese starts to melt and turn golden brown.
Ready to serve!
